Common coating methods of medical breathable tape

2022·04·24

I believe that most people have gone to hospitals or clinics for injections or blood pumping. I don't know if I found that the role of tape on medical treatment is also quite large, such as bottles and indwelling needles. These tapes are still different from the tapes we usually use. Most of the tapes we usually use are airtight or have poor air permeability, Medical tapes must be breathable and have good permeability, so that the skin can breathe all the time. So how are these breathable medical tapes made? Let's take a brief look at some coating methods of medical breathable tape today.

Scraper coating uses the wiping effect of the scraper to evenly apply the pressure-sensitive adhesive on the surface of the substrate.

Transfer coating: the substrate of medical breathable tape (medical non-woven fabric) and the anti adhesive substrate (medical silicone paper) pre coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive are pressurized and compounded, so that the pressure-sensitive adhesive powder is transferred from the surface of medical silicone paper to the medical non-woven fabric.

Gravure coating uses the gravure pits evenly or regularly arranged on the surface of the circular barrel to evenly transfer the liquid glue with low viscosity to the substrate of the medical breathable tape.

Extrusion coating uses pressure to extrude the pressure-sensitive adhesive from the gap and apply it to the surface of medical breathable tape substrate.

In fact, medical breathable tape basically belongs to transfer coating. First, apply medical hot melt adhesive or medical solvent adhesive to medical silicone paper, and then transfer the adhesive on the surface of silicone paper to medical non-woven fabric through pressure compounding, so as to process it into medical breathable tape. Common extrusion coating is mainly used for hot sol, solvent adhesive is mainly used for scraper coating, and gravure coating is also used.
